orangutan

Hand crafted by the kenana knitters of kenya using homespun wool that is naturally dyed with local plants, vegetables and flowers. Every critter is unique with its own personality. Each one comes with a card telling the kenana knitter story signed by the knitter.

Kenana knitters is a grass roots organisation located near Njoro (the rift valley area of kenya) founded by Patricia Nightingale, a kenyan woman who wanted to assist local women with a market for their homespun wool. Over time with clever designs Patricia and the knitters transformed the yarn into unique creations. Kenana knitters provides a safe family friendly working environment allowing women to work and take charge of their lives with a decent income using their skills and creativity. Today the cooperative has nearly 600 knitters and 200 spinners creating these wonderful critters.
